Bands
As with d.j.’s, there are lots of choices
in bands. You would want to hear them before choosing, just
as with a d.j. Please refer to the d.j. section for hints
on checking them out.
With a band, you must be sure that your
contract calls for the same group you’ve interviewed – the
same people, the same instruments, etc.
Also, sometimes, bands are into advertising
themselves with signs around the room or in the entryway.
You should decide if you want this at your wedding and be
very specific about it beforehand. A small sign next to
the band should be sufficient.
Another thing you must consider with bands
is that they’ll take breaks, unlike d.j.’s. And bands very
often are more concerned with playing than with moving along
the events of the wedding. It’s sometimes difficult to get
them to announce that things are going to take place. And
they sometimes don’t stop playing for you to do your thing.
You don’t want them to announce that the cake is going to
be cut and then immediately start the next set while this
is being done. Discuss this specifically beforehand, note
how it’s done when you interview them and check references.
One more caution with bands. Good d.j.’s
do not drink while they’re working. Some bands – even the
good ones – do. You must weigh the importance of having
a band and taking a chance on some or all of them overdoing
the alcohol. This is not the norm but you must be aware
that it does happen. Just another reason to check references…
